GROVER GAY
Grover Gay, 74, died Thursday Feb 6 (1986) in Jefferson County Hospital at Waurika after a brief illness.
Funeral service was at 2 P.M. Saturday, Feb 8 in the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Rev. Tommy Billings, paster, officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Fort Sill, was in the Waurika Cemetery under direction of Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home in Waurika.
Grover Brantley Gay was born Dec 5, 1911 in Shelby County, Texas. He came with his parents, Bert and Sarah (Bannie) Gay, to Oklahoma in 1917 and they settled on a farm southeast of Waurika.
On Dec. 24, 1935 he married Lillian Welch and they farmed east of Waurika. 1944 he joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. When he returned from the service, he began working for Elkins Market and later worked for Shelton's Grocery before he retired in 1974.
Gay was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian, of the home in Waurika; two sons Larry Leo Gay of Wichita Falls and Grover Harold Gay of Gutherie; five sisters, Laura McBee of Maricopa Cailf. Ozuette Welch and Itaska Wirt, both of Waurika, Nancy Beilue of Central, NM and Inez Dugan of Bakersfield, Calif; and two grandchildren, Christopher Paul Gay and Nichaulas York Gay.
A son, Jimmy Birt Gay, preceded him in death in 1937.
Pall bearers were Woodrow Elkins, Jerry Shelton, J. B. Henderson, Ed Trout, Lewis Helms and Hilton Mendenhall.
