OBITUARY: The Manti Messenger, Saturday 3 February 1900:
Fairview News.
Alma Allred, an old settler died here Thursday, Jan. 25. Mr. Allred came to Utah in an early day. He came to Fairview, with the first settlers. He has always been a well respected citizen. Mr. Allred had been visiting his son who was very ill. He started home along the railroad track a distance of about two miles and then slipped and fell into a cattleguard. On reaching home he said he was not hurt, but on retiring, he began to cramp and later had paralisis. He died in four days. It was not until he was being laid out that it was discovered how badly he was hurt by the fall into the cattleguard. It undoubtedly caused his death.
