The Salina Journal, Salina, Saline Co., KS., dtd 19 Aug 1994 MAE A. WHITNEY Sharon Springs - Mae A. Whitney, 82, Sharon Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1994 at Hays Regional Medical Center.
Mrs Whitney was born Mae A. Smart on June 9, 1912, north of Gypsum and was a resident of Sharon Springs since 1978, moving from Salina. She operated Heyl's Cafe and owned Mae's Fried Chicken, both in Sharon Springs, and was a head cook in the Sharon Springs school District. She also was head cook at Hilton Hotel, Salina, retiring in 1978. She was a former member of Ladies Auxiliary, Sharon Springs. Her first husband, Alvin Burch, died in 1947.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn of the home; a son, Rovert L. Burch of Sharon Springs; a daughter, Melinda DeMark of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Edith Shelton of Gypsum; a step-son Bill Whitney, of Sharon Springs; five step-daughters, Donna Dillow, Glennis Perkins, and Sherry Maestas, all of Lakewood, Colo., Karen Whitney of Boulder City, Nev., and Twila Simmering of Zurich; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wesleyn Church, Sharon Springs, the Revs. Paul McNall and Mark Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wallace County Emergency ~~ Information supplied by Find A Grave contributor James Moore.
