* Documentation taken from Fold-3 Military Records and a Book confirm the following: Samuel Dixon, age 24/26, a farmer, born in Greene County, Missouri enlisted with the 8th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry, USA on July 31, 1862 in Springfield, Missouri as a Pvt. in Company "G". He furnished his own horse upon day of enlistment with a value of $65.00. August 30, 1862 Absent, Left Company about -12- miles SW of Springfield, Missouri to see his family. September 15, 1862 Appointed/Promoted to Corp. April 15, 1863 Promoted to Sgt. April 21, 1863 Absent, On Scout Duty with General Vandever. April 27, 1864 Absent, Detached On Scout Duty. May 22, 1864 Absent, On Scout Duty to Hicks Station, Arkansas. July 30, 1864 Absent, Sick at Brownsville Station, Arkansas. April 12/14, 1865 Promoted to 1st Sgt. per Special Order # 28, Headquarters 8th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry at Little Rock, Arkansas. {Order in File.} July 20, 1865 Mustered Out at Little Rock, Arkansas. * Pension Card states: Died September 15, 1921 Commerce, Texas. - Ralph Biggs

* Noted Discrepancies: Age stated in 1862 as: 24 and 26. {1862-24= 1838; 1862-26= 1836}. Death Date shown as: September 13, 1921 on Military Plaque and Post. However, by enlarging Picture of Marker,,, I read Death Date as: Sept. 15, 1921. {Same as Pension Card states.} Then Texas Death Certificate looks to read: Died September 16, 1921. - Thus, we have "Human Errors" to be Noted.
