Alpheus Adams, who a few weeks ago was taken to the hospital at Cherokee for treatment, died at that institution Tuesday, of Bright'a disease. The remains are expected to be brought here today for burial.
November 27, 1902 - The news last week briefly alluded to the death of Alpheus Adams, which occurred at the state hospital, Cherokee, Nov. 19th. The remains were brought to Spencer, Friday morning, and funeral services, conducted by Rev. T. O. Cornstock, were held at the Free Baptist church, Saturday at 2 p. m. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
Mr. Adams was born at Lockport, N. Y., July 22, 1828. He came west in 1847, and settled in Lafayette county, Wis. April 3, 1851, he was married to Sarah Wallace. Seven children, four sons and three daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral, survive their father; four others died in infancy and another at the age of nineteen.
Mr. Adams with his family came to Clay county in March, 1871, and was among tbe early settlers. Mr. Adams enlisted in the Union army on August 1864 and remained in the service till the close of the war. He belonged to Co. E 40th Wisconsin voluneers. Fullest sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife, upon whom the trial comes with peculiar force, and to the children and grandchildren who mourn vith her.
