Mrs. Laura Gertrude Phillips Appleton, 66, a resident East 13th Street in Columbia passed away Sunday July 9, 2006.

Funeral services for Mrs. Appleton will be conducted Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday and Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Maple and Millie Butcher Phillips and the widow of W. L. "Slim" Appleton. Mrs. Appleton retired from Creekwood Manufacturing and Weather Tamer for twenty five years. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Tim) Holt of Columbia, two granddaughters, Jennifer Hardy and Morgan Holt both of Columbia; grand-son-in-law, Jeff Hardy of Columbia; one brother, Herbert "Chubby" Phillips of Pulaski; one sister, Ruby Salters of Pulaski; She was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Phillips and Nora Westmoreland; three brothers, John Phillips, James Phillips and Bill Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Jason Phillips, Wayne King, Troy Wilson, Archie Dean Salters, Keith Salters and Darrin Schmitz. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Parkway Baptist Church.
