Shelby was a beautiful Tri Colored Sheltie who came into our lives when he was a few weeks old. I got him from a friend at work who decided after a few days that a puppy was not a good idea for her lifestyle. So I went and got him and brought him home to my kids who had been begging for a dog. He was a little ball of black and white and some brown fur. The whole time I was driving home he kept jumping up on me and licking my face. It was love at first site for me and the kids. We were crazy about him but it soon became very clear that even though Shelby loved us all, he was Daddy's dog. Shelby loved Daddy, he would go to him first and foremost and was always at his side. They were best friends. Shelby was easily trained and was very well behaved. When we moved to Maryland and he had a back yard to play in he was so happy. We found that he loved playing in the snow, jumping around and eating it too. He was the only dog we ever knew that would hug you. He would wrap his front legs around you and hug while you were petting him. He was always great with our kids and never once bit them even if they were rough with him. In the last few years Shelby was going deaf and had cataracts. He had seizures from time to time and he was having trouble walking or rather getting up and down, once he was up he was ok. We knew he was starting to suffer and when they found cancer on his kidney we had to make a hard choice. We just couldn't watch him suffer any more. Just as they put the needle in his leg we saw a tiny tear just beneath his eye. We think he was just as sad to leave us as we were to see him go. There will never be another dog like Shelby. We love you Shelby!!!
