William Wellington Corlett
[Add Flowers]
Bill Corlett and fellow Territorial Councilor Stephen Downey (7178265) were 2 of 4 who voted to sustain WY Gov. John A. Campbell's veto against the repeal of women's suffrage. They prevailed. The result: it would be another 50 years before the rest of the USA gave women the right to vote. Corlett, Downey and Campbell--TITANS!

Honoring a man who fought for his beliefs and achieved great accomplishments. May we remember the sacrifices that were made by this generation of honorable men!

The headstones for the W. W. Corlett lot and that of Erasmus and Emma Jane Nagle (# 14088650)came from the same quarry. They are conspicuous among the most costly and impressive stones in Lakeview, and they are in sight of one another. Minnie Corlett and Emma Jane Nagle, both widowed in the same year, were extremely close friends and co-hosts of numerous, elaborate social occasions. Minnie also contributed the cornerstone for Cheyenne's new school (Corlett Elementary--the 1st of its 2 buildings) before leaving Cheyenne in a 2nd marriage. I do not know if it survives.
