General Sickles - As you said "I have said to you before that I do not deem it a wise course, nor recommend it to any friend; but I have adopted it; it is mine, and I will follow it come what may." You were colorful and controversial but always lived life in your own terms and to the very fullest. That is a great legacy to have. It is a pleasure to continue to learn about you, General, and to consider you a historical friend.

General, your long life was full of highly controversial events; However nobody can deny the fact that you were an extremely brave citizen soldier. Not only were you awarded a Medal of Honor, you had also been promoted to the Regular Army Rank of Major General on the retired list. A rare honor for a non-professional. Rest easy.
