Independent Chronicle & Boston Patriot Newspaper, Oct. 12, 1825:On the 6th inst. Stephen Jones, aged 86. In the old French War he served in a company of Provincials, and was present when Lord Howe was killed at Ticonderoga. He moved to Machias in its early settlement, and resided there for more than 56 years, serving as Chief Justice and Judge of Probate of the County of Washington for a large proportion of that time, and returned to this city about three years since.
