Memorial services for Dr. A.E. Broughton, 83, of Lufkin, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007, in the Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Mike Hunter officiating.

Dr. Broughton was born March 12, 1924, in Palestine, Texas, the son of the late Sybil (Pierce) and Arnold Elbert Broughton.

He passed away Monday, August 13, 2007, at his residence.

Dr. Broughton was a self-employed optometrist for more than 60 years. He graduated from the Southern College of Optometry of Tennessee with an O.D. degree.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, flew B17s and 24s, accomplishing 31 missions over Europe, and was discharged as a Captain.

Dr. Broughton was a member of First Christian Church.

Dr. Broughton was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Broughton, on April 28, 2007.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Kathy Broughton of Austin and Scott and Laura Broughton of Lufkin; and grandchildren, Allison Broughton and Brandon Broughton, both of Lufkin.

The family will receive friends at Dr. Broughton's residence from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
