It's kind of sad that when we think of Harold Stassen -- if we do think about him, it is usually because of his strange penchant for running for office -- especially the Presidency. In reality, he was a talented thinker and could have been an outstanding President, especially during his prime. I like the following quote from his biographer, Mark F. Bernstein: "Even in old age, there was something Stassen found vital in tilting at windmills, something that lent his lonely career an odd sort of gallantry. It was fitting that his favorite lines of poetry came from Robert Browning: 'Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for?'"
