Born about 1837 in Laurens District, SC, the second child of Hargrove and Elizabeth (Bailey) Miller. Never married. On 5 Dec. 1861, he enlisted at Columbia, SC, as a pvt. in Co. B, 3rd Battn. SC Infantry. Was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg, Pa. on 2 July 1863. His body was found at "Rose's Farm, under a cherry tree, west of the barn". His remains were later interred at Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, SC.
