US Continental Congressman. He immigrated to the United States in 1733, was educated in medicine and practiced in Savannah, Georgia, 1756 to 1774. He was a member of the colonial assembly in 1755, 1756, 1760 to 1762, 1764, 1768, 1769, 1771 and 1772. In 1775, he was a member of the council of safety in the Provincial Congress and a member of the State house of representatives in 1777 and 1778. In 1781, he was elected as a Wing to the Second Continental Congress, serving until 1872. He was a member of the Georgia State house of representatives in 1783 and president of the State constitutional convention in 1795. His son George Jones, was a US Senator from Georgia in 1807.
