He was captured in 1863 at Mufreesboro, Tennessee, and spent the remaining 19 months of the war in Libby prison in Richmond, Virginia. After the war, he was a county commissioner, and was Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for Perry County, Illnois, at the time of his death.
