During the Civil War, Horace W. Adams was a Captain in the 89th Illinois Regiment. He was captured in 1863 at Mufreesboro, Tennessee, and spent the remaining 19 months of the war in Libby prison in Richmond, Virginia. After the war, he was a county commissioner, and was Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for Perry County, Illnois, at the time of his death.
