Services for James T. Cross, 57, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Ringling Oklahoma with the Rev. Clarence Mize officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery there with members of the Disabled American Veterans performing graveside rites.
Cross will lie in state at the Leslie Funeral Home in Ringling from Sunday afternoon until time of seervices.
James T. Cross, born May 10, 1918 at Atlee, died Friday in a local hospital. He was employed with the State of Oklahoma Highway Department, and lived in this area his entire life.
A Veteran of World War II when served as a private in the U.S. Army Infantry he was wounded in battle near Buna, New Guinea, he was a member of the D.A.V.
He received a Purple Heart on January 21, 1943. Cross was also awarded an Aisiatic Campaign Ribbon.
His wife, the former Fannie Lou Whitener, whom he married on Christmas Day 1940 in Ringling, Oklahoma survives.
Other survivors include his six daughters, Connie Miller, Roff, Wilma Blankenship, Fort Worth,TX., Carolyn Russell, Trent, TX., Marie Vaughn Ardmore Ok.,and Patsy Cross, and Elaine Cross, both of the home in Gene Autry, Ok. a son Jimmy C. Cross, Sulphur, Ok. Two sisters Iva Whitener, Ringling and Vida Woods, Modesto, Calif.,a brother Bill Cross, Loco, and three grandchildren.
Serving as bearers will be Larry Mitchell, Ernest Conway, Scott Greenway, Jake Hollenbeck, Gene Shurley and Kieth McGahee.
Bettes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
