Melvin H. Casey of Batesville died Friday, October 21, 2005.

He was 91 years and 23 days of age.

He was born Monday, September 28, 1914 in Mount Pleasant, Arkansas the son of William Houston Casey and Mollie Conyers Casey.

He was dedicated to God and had a very patient spirit in all aspects of his life. Prayers he offered to God were always very moving. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart serving during the Battle of the Bulge as a gunner. He was trapped behind enemy lines and was close enough to the enemy to hear German being spoken.

He married Daisy Marie Smith December 24, 1935; they had been married 69 years. He owned a grocery store and service station in Sulphur Rock for 17 years and worked as a supervisor for J. K. Southerland Hatchery for 21 years. He was a member of the Shrine's Masonic Lodge, where he was a 33rd degree Mason. He was a member of the West Baptist Church in Batesville; and a dedicated member of the Men's 4 Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Marie Smith Casey of the home; a daughter Patsy Ann Casey Shell, her husband, Monte, of Branson, Missouri; a sister, Buenia Keller of Batesville; three grandsons Dr. Michael Gray Shell, his wife, Donna Brooks Shell, Mitchell Lynn Shell, and his wife Susan, Marcus Ray Shell; and two great-granddaughters, Mariah Brooks Shell, and Siera Brooks Shell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his stepmother, Betty Duncan Casey.

Pallbearers are Bill Campbell, Melvin Patterson, Jim Watkins, Gerald Gaither, Rick Caudell, Alan Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bob Slaughter, Frankie Shell, Jim Clark, Bruce Matthews, Brian Allender, Tom Caudell, Merrill Blakey, and Men's Four Sunday School Class.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 24, 2005 at the West Baptist Church in Batesville with Rev. Bob Dailey officiating.

Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 PM Sunday, October 23, 2005.

Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. (870) 793-4161
