Descendant of James Jennings who was born in South Carolina in 1755. He joined the 6th Regimemnt of the South Carolina Continental Troops as a Private, commanded by Col William Henderson on January 7, 1778. He was transferred to the 1st Regt in Feb 1780. After the War, James then began a resident of Caldwell County, Kentucky. From the Courthouse at Princeton, he filed for his Revolutionary War Pension in 1818. His applicant declared he marched under Capt John Montgomery to Charleston. He was in the attack made on Savannah and went as far as the James River with the expedition fitted out against St. Augustine. He served until Charleston was taken in which he was made a prisoner. He was in service for three years for which he was allowed a pension made passable by Rev. Claim Act March 18, 1818.

Descendant of Capt Samuel Bowen of Elbert County: Revolutionary War Pension Record number not known, Georgia Genealogical Magazine No 5, Page 285-286. Samuel volunteered in August, 1779 as a private. He was living in Mongtomery County, North Carolina, enlisted in Salisbury NC, thence to Charleston SC, and was with the American Army at that place when it was besieged by the British in the spring of 1780 and there surrrended as a prisoner of war. Shortly afterward he broke from his imprisonmente and returned to his home in North Carolina.In 1781, he re-entered as a Captain in the militia light-horse regiment commanded by Col George Davidson, and after serving eight months was discharged. His application for his pension was signed by his mark and was approved April 22, 1833, and he was enrolled to receive $230.00 annually to date from March 4, 1831. Capt Samuel Bowen was Sarah Frances Jennings grandfather.
