After graduating from the Stoughton High School in 1953, he married Irene Straavaldson on June 26, 1954. Eldon enlisted in the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1954 and retired as a staff sergeant in 1964.
He worked at Badger Petroleum in McFarland from 1952 until 1975. A brick in his memory is located in Larson Park, the site of the former Badger Petroleum. He then worked at Cenex in Cottage Grove, until retirement.
After retirement, he devoted his time to helping his many friends on their farms. He enjoyed his morning ritual of visiting with his buddies at the Sunrise and his afternoon visits at the Koffee Kup, as well as the spur-of-the-moment excursions to the casinos with Irene.
Eldon was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and also had a love of NASCAR that began in the 1960s when his cousins built stockcar number 23X, that he drove at the area racetracks.
