"Death Takes Mrs. Andreen - Another Scranton pioneer passed away this week, when Matilda Andreen died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Carney Saturday. Mrs. Andreen had lived in this community more than 50 years, and until a few days before her death, lived with her son, Albert, in her home here and helped share the responsibilities of the home. She was taken to the Carney home on Thursday. Mrs. Andreen was one of the highly respected women of this community, and one who numbered her friends by her acquaintances. Mrs. Andreen was born in Suraparish, Vestmanland, Sweden, April 28, 1859. She spent her childhood and youth in her native country coming to Topeka in 1883 where she met and married Andrew Andreen, August 21, 1885. The young couple moved to Scranton when they made their home. She had lived here over 50 years. She has been a member of the Ev. Mission Covenant Church since 1889, and in her younger days took an active part in the church. She died Saturday, November 15, 1941, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carney, at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 17 days. Mr. Andreen passed away, February 13, 1928. Three daughters, a son, and six grandchildren mourn her passing. They are Agnes Carney, Scranton, Elsie Leishman, Detroit, Mich., Helen Newenfelt, Detroit; Albert Andreen, Scranton; three sons-in-law, and the following grandchildren, Mrs. James Anderson, Clarence Carney, Scranton; Helen Carney, Detroit; Mrs. Fred Ball, Silver Lake, Nebr.; Beulah Carney, Topeka and Bobby Leishman of Detroit. Funeral Services were held at the Ev. Mission Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. G.O. Gustafson. Mrs. Bryon Thomas and Cora Middleton sang, with Mrs. Walter Anderson at the piano. The pallbearers were C.R. Barlow, Walter C. Alberg, James Brackman, L. Benortham, Raymond Leishman, and John Williams. Interment was in the Scranton Cemetery."
