I have always been fond of Victorian prose, which is some of the best in the language, and picked up a copy of "The Woman in White" on an impulse, and while it tested my patience at points, it kept me interested, and I read with great admiration your mastery of the language, and the skill with which you applied it to this extraordinary novel. I plan to read more of your work. I noticed that a modern novel called "Fingersmith" seems to owe at least part of its main plot device to your novel. But I am not certain. I loved Dickens, who was your friend and mentor. Odd that he should be so adored, and your work so little known. But then I did not know it until I chanced upon it at the book store. I understand that "The Woman in White" eclipsed even Dickens in it's popularity, and was serialized, and widely read. Perhaps the serializationaccounts for the somewhat turgid writing style. Still, masterfully done. "The Woman in White" is a classic.
