Luke Walsh, passed away at his home on June 16, 1906, and was born in Kells County, Meith, Ireland, May 25, 1833. He was 73 years of age. Burial was at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa.
He was a Civil War Veteran. He enlisted in the 3rd New York Infantry.
He came to America in 1840 when but 13 years old, and settled in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he was married to Hannah Meighen in 1867. To this union 6 children all grown to manhood and womanhood survive the parents, James, George, Luke, Edward, Mamie, and Anna.
In the spring of 1879, Mr. Walsh and family came to Ida County, settling on the tract of land in Grant Twp. that has been their home for the past 27 years, and by years of hard toil, he added to the original homestead until he had an entire section of the best tilled soil in Ida County.
Besides the sons and daughters, the deceased left two sisters, Mrs. James Matthews and Mrs. P. Conlin of New Brunswick, New Jersey. His wife preceded him in death some years ago.
The funeral services were held in the Sacred Heart Church Monday at 10 a.m., with Rev Father Plante of the Cathedral of Ephphany at Sioux City, Iowa, in charge, in the absence of Rev. Father Costello, the local priest.
