The husband of Josephine Indianna Goodman was a resident of Franklin. He was an assistant surgeon in the 5th North Carolina Infantry after enlisting at Gates County, North Carolina on 14 June 18561. He was left with the wounded at Gettysburg, then confined at Point Lookout until transfered to City Point. He was exchanged and rejoined his regiment until he surrendered at Appomattox.
