Carolyn was born in Kenedy, Texas, to the late Andrew J. and Elizabeth Elvira (Hardin) Smith. She was reared in Flat where she was a 1957 graduate of Flat High School. On Jan. 6, 1972, she married J.F. "Doc" Combs at the First Baptist Church of Moffett. In 1978, Carolyn moved to Moody from Missisippi and was employed by the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Temple as a Lab Technician. After 24 years of service, she retired in 1994. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oglesby where she was a summer missionary in Colorado and Arizona. Carolyn enjoyed sewing and various types of needle crafts.
Preceding her in death was her father; and a son, Craig Jr. Combs.
Survivors include her husband, J.F. "Doc" Combs; son, Douglas C. Perkins, of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughters, Debbie Lewis and husband, Ronnie, of Belton, Vicki Brown and husband, Clay, of Seattle, Wash., Karen Combs, of Neosho, Mo.; one great-grandson; mother, Elizabeth Smith, of Temple; brothers, Doyle Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Mernivera, Darrel Smith and wife, Rosemarie, of Georgetown; sisters, Nadine Holt and husband, David, of Garden Ridge, and Lagene Sands and husband, Larry, of White City, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
