Gjert "George" Anderson was born December 28,1 830 in Sogn og Fjordane fylke, Norway, the son of Anders Danielson (1799-1873) and Aase Olsdatter (1801-1831). Both of his parents died in Norway.

George married Helga Tomine "Minnie" Johnson. Helga was born November 15, 1846, in Dane County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Norwegian immigrants Beruld and Karen Kirstine (Tellesfsdatter) Johnson. George and Helga had the following known children:

4. Oscar Gerhard Anderson (1872-1903)

7. Josephine A. Anderson (1879-1880)
8. Elmer Theodore Anderson (1881-1947)
9. Julius C. Anderson (1883-1977)
10. Olive Tolena (Anderson) Flummer (1886-1959)
11. Leah Z. (Anderson) Stull (1892-1940)

George died October 2, 1907, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. The following is from page 117 of The History of Greenwood County, Kansas, Volume I:

In 1857 George Anderson left Holanger, Norway and came to America in sailing vessel. He made his way to Wisconsin, and in 1859 he yoked up his oxen, left Beloit, and came to Kansas. He settled in a settlement of Norwegians about 16 miles northwest of Eureka. He was a soldier in the Civil War. He married Helga Tomine "Minnie" Johnson the daughter of Baeruld Johnson, who came from Norway and settled in Wisconsin. From Wisconsin they came by boat to Westport (now Kansas City), and from there in three covered wagons they came to Greenwood County and made their home on a farm just east of the Fall River Lutheran Church. They lived in a log cabin. The Johnson family gave the acreage where the Fall River Lutheran Church now stands. Submitted by Ellen Olson.

Whereas-it pleased Almighty God to call Comrade Anderson from this life to the Grand Army above.

Whereas: In the death of Comrade Anderson his family has lost a fond and loving father. The county an upright honorable and in every respect a first class citizen and Dick Yates Post a good and highly respected member.

Therefore "Be it resolve" That the bereaved children has deep heartfelt sympathy of this post.

Be it futher resolved, That a copy of these resolution be mailed to the family and a copy furnished each of the newspaper of this city.
