CARBONDALE - Pearl Evelyn Freeman, 88, of Carbondale died at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in Carbondale.

She was born April 20, 1918, in Murphysboro to Melvin and Flora (Kelley) Lindsey.

She married Cecil Freeman in 1942. He passed away in 1973.

Mrs. Freeman had worked in the housekeeping department at Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and William Hertter of Carbondale; grandsons, Kenneth Hertter and wife, Jennifer, of Oak Forest and John Hertter and wife, Jamie, of Carbondale; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kyle and Katie Hertter of Oak Forest and KC, Jo and Jackson Hertter of Carbondale; brothers, Melvin Lindsey Jr. and his wife, Delores, of Carterville and Harold Lindsey and his wife, Gloria, of Fontanna, Calif.; sisters, June Bennett, Helen Waddington and LaNora Powell, all of Carbondale, and Lois "Susie" Whitaker of Centre, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Erna Lindsey of Carterville, Margaret Freeman of Carbondale, Corrine Lindsey of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Betty Hamilton and husband, Bob, of St. Charles, Mo.; brother-in-law, Charles Freeman and wife, Frances, of Carbondale; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Lindsey and Leonard Lindsey, and a sister, Pat Kerr.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, in Huffman-Harker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wes Henson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
