MATTHIAS BIEN

Matthias Bien, 79, died Saturday night Nov. 5th, 1927, at 8:45 at his farm home two miles northeast of Potter and eight miles south of Atchison. His death was caused by heart failure. He was up and about an hour before his death.

Mr. Bien was born in Grundeuche Luxemburg July 10, 1848 and came to this country at the age of twenty. All alone he braved the voyage to America. On arriving he started to work on a farm at a small sum of $15 a month and finally he accumulated enough money to start farming for himself.

Dec. 20, 1872 he married Miss Elizabeth Kiefer, who survives him, at St. Benedict's church, Atchison. Their married life was a long and happy one of 55 years. To them was born five children, one son who died at the age of five. Surviving are his wife, two sons Peter and Matthias, two daughters Mrs. Pete Petesch and Mrs. Nick Petesch, all living in this community; one sister, Mrs. Pat Lyons, Atchison and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Patrick's church.

Interment in St. Patrick's cemetery.
