She was born to Tom Newman, Jr. and Frankie Armstrong Newman on March 16, 1925, in Abilene, Texas, and graduated from Abilene High School in 1943. She retired as office manager after 20 years with Bandera Drilling Co. Ms. Boyd was formerly employed by Abilene Grain Co. as general manager for 20 years.
Ms. Boyd was a member of Elmdale Baptist Church and Desk and Derrick in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her son, Ted E. Gregg of Wichita Falls; two grandchildren, Amy Hill of Watauga, TX, and Ashley Whitfield of Wichita Falls; three great-grandchildren, Garrett Flippo, Gavin Hill, and Emma Whitfield; sisters, Dorothy Patterson and husband, J. B. of Wichita Falls, Tommie Underwood and husband, Forrest, of Midland, and Katie Poer of Abilene; a nephew, John Poer; and nieces, Frances Poer, Terrie Whitehead, Donna Randolph, and Pat Dutko.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Abilene City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Katie Poer, 4209 Don Juan.
