You were actually a good actor in many films, like your villain in "Shanghai Express", and your pathetic monster in "The Warewolf of London", in silent and sound films. You were also Fu Manchu in several films. But it is as the great Charley Chan you left your mark.

Warner Oland, a native of Nyby, Sweden, was born Johan Verner lund and emigrated to the United States with his parents in 1892. His first acting experience was in the theater, where he also was proficient in set design. He was the first to play the Chinese detective. He was Charlie Chan in sixteen of the films.
