Robert Ceals Moon died of complications incurred during dental surgery in Jackson Memorial Hospital. The dentist pulled an infected tooth and the infection spread rapidly through his body, killing him. He was a Cabinet Maker looking for work in Florida at the time of death. His father had to travel down to Florida by train to retrieve his son's body for burial.
