Peter Stein and his wife Veronica Funck Stein were born in Hambach, Pfalz, Bavaria, and immigrated to the US aboard the USS ROBERT L. LANE in 1854, arriving in New Orleans. They traveled by river to Hermann, Missouri with their children and settled there. Veronica and her younger children apparently died in a cholera outbreak in St. Louis in 1860. Peter worked for Stone Hill Winery, and lived with his son Bernard until his death.
