Bart was the sixth of seven children born to John and Elizabeth (Moose) Lowrance. He married (1) Mary H. Moody in 1865. After Mary died in 1867 he married (2) Celia Melissa Moose in 1868 and they were the parents of one son: John Joseph.

Lowrance, Bartlette, enlisted April 27, 1861, Company A, 12th N.C. Regiment. Survived the war, was a shoe-maker.
