Mr. Johnston died Dec. 12, 2006, in a Palestine nursing home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1906, in Arkansas to the late Fletcher P. and Martha Ann "Mattie" Bailey Johnston. He retired as an attorney at the age of 90 and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He served as Anderson County Judge and Anderson County Attorney and was a member of Anderson County Bar Association, Texas State Bar Association. He also served on the board of directors for Cartmell Home for the Aged.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Evelyn Hanks Johnston, in 2001; daughter, Anne J. Chennault; great-granddaughter, Meagan Chennault; sister, Marie Johnston; brothers, F.M. Johnston, Monroe Johnston, Lawrence Johnston and Olen Johnston; and his nephew and law partner, Hoyt Johnston.
Survivors include daughter, Susan J. Comte; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
