Jack Wayne Britain, 80, of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur. Services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with Rev. Malcolm Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Friday, December 1, 2006, at the funeral home.

Jack was born on January 9, 1926, in Gatesville, Texas to Lucile Hall Britain and Jack A. Britain. He had lived in Port Arthur for most of his life and was a retired Band Director with the P.A.I.S.D. for over thirty years. He was a former member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Port Arthur where he also served as the choir director. Jack also served as choir director for the Department Club in Port Arthur; he was a member of the Griffing Park Lions Club; the United Methodist Men and a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Nederland. He was also a World War II Army Air Force Veteran serving with the 558th Army Air Force Band where he received several awards and commendations.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Gloria Edwards Britain of Port Arthur; son, Scott E. Britain and his wife Kitty of Florida; daughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Crain-Lee and her husband Dwight of Georgia and Susie Chirafis and her husband John of Port Arthur; brother, Eugene Britain and his wife Glenice of Lewisville, Texas; brother-in-law, Elroy Edwards and his wife Jeanette of Bridge City; sister-in-law, Diana Perkins and her husband Roy of Austin; grandchildren, Shannon Britain, Christi Slaughter, Traci Slaughter, Kristen Britain, Erica Britain and Scottie Britain; other relatives, friends and co-workers who will miss him dearly.
