Born: March 8, 1850 in Paterson, New Jersey; died: 1921; Son of Timothy Clark & Rachael (DeBois) Axtell; Father of: Joseph Wallace, Euretta Gero, Joanna, Levi, Harriet, Theodore, and Walter.His early life was spent in New York. He entered the service in the Civil War as a drummer boy at the age of 13, his father died when he was in his "teens." He married Joanna Woodmansee in New York City. She was the daughter of David G. and Sarah Jane Woodmansee of Sandyhook, N.Y. His early church affiliations were Baptist, but in 1873 he and his wife joined the Mormon Church and went to Utah, as a result of which his mother disowned him. He made his home in New York, Utah and Idaho. He was a stage manager in Brooklyn, N.Y. Theater, and at Walker Opera House, Salt Lake. His wife died in June or July 1919.
