Funeral services will be held in Shiloh Church on Tuesday afternoon.
Edward J. Engel, 81, a native of Panola Township, southeast of Minonk, where he was born December 5, 1863 on the Engel homestead, died in the same home at 7:30 o’clock Sunday morning, following an extended illness. Since the death of his second wife, Clara Hilsabeck Engel a number of years ago, Mr. Engel has made his home with his only son, Cecil E. Engel at the family homestead.
He was the son of Christian and Magdalena (Donner) Engel. His first wife, Lula Phillips, bore him a son, Cecil Engel and two daughters, Mrs. Opal Morris of Minonk and Miss Oma Engel of Los Angeles, Cal. Following her death Mr. Engel married Miss Hilsabeck.
Mr. Engel also leaves two sisters, Mattie Roth of Redland, Calif., and Tillie Steinman of Candler, N. Car. Emma Gringerich and Barbara Roth, residents of Grindley, preceded him in death. The family was prominent in the community for many years.
Services will be held from the Shiloh church, southeast of Minonk at two o’closk Tuesday afternoon with burial following in the Baughman cemetery. Friends may call at the home.

El Paso. – (PNS) – Edward J. Engel, 81, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of his son, Cecil E. Engel, southeast of Minonk after several months illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the home and at 2:30 p.m. at the Shiloh Methodist church. The Rev. K. A. Lipp, Gridley, will officiate. Burial will be in Baughman cemetery.
He was born Dec. 5, 1863, in Panola township, and spent his entire life in that community where he engaged in farming. His late home was on the farm where he was born.
He was the son of Christian and Magdalena Donner Engel. He married Lula Phillips Feb. 21, 1893. A son, Percy, died in 1904, and his wife died in 1918.
Surviving are a son, Cecil, two daughters, Mrs. Opal Morris, Minonk; Miss Oma Engel, Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Roth, Redlands, Calif.; Mrs. Tillie Steinman, Candler, N.C.
