I remember Mr. Baskett as the character Gabby Gibson from the Amos & Andy radio program. He always made us laugh so much, we always waited for his appearance on the show. Am so sorry he died so young, and also that he was denied by racial prejudice from attending the opening of the Sound of the South movie for which he is perhaps better known. He remains fondly in our memory and, I hope, of others. Soon all will be gone, we are old people here. -

Was the Uncle Remus of my childhood. Your work in the film was terrific, it is very sad Disney decided to bury it in political corectness. Hope to see you on the screen again some day, rest in peace. -

Thank you for being Uncle Remus and all the good memories. Our mother would take us to see you in Song Of The South everytime it came to the movies when we were little. Now i have a copy of it, and my children love it too. Its one of our favorite movies. They dont make good movies like that anymore. We loved how you told the stories and sang the songs. You made it feel like you were our friend too. -

I have a copy of the original Song of The South and would not trade, sell or give it away for anything!!I am old now but watching the movie can take me back to my childhood and the first time I saw it.Thank you for making me see at a young age that skin color should not determine the worth of a human. God bless and keep you safe in His arms. -

How dear you are to me. I am white and spent my childhood in a very small rural town which had many racists. I saw "Song of the South" as a child though, and to me I wanted to know African Americans because I believed in their goodness based on your portrayal of Uncle Remus. As a grown woman I married a black man (an indigenous Fijian) and some of my own family members' racist views ended thanks to my inter-racial marriage. I'd like to think that it was you who I can thank for that. As a small child my only exposure to African Americans was via very limited film exposure as there were only a few TV channels in our home as it was long before cable came along. Had it not been for your portrayal of Uncle Remus and the seed of hope that it planted in me, I don't know that my upbringing alone would have steered me to my soul mate and dearest love. Thank you so much for bringing light to a child's heart and opening the eyes and hearts of so many who had unfounded scorn towards an entire race. My heart is so overflowing with gratitude for you. May you always rest in peace. -
