Professional Baseball Pioneer. One of the first African-Americans to play Major League Baseball. Mr. Walker was the second African American to play major league baseball. William Edward White played one game in 1879. In 1883, Moses joined the Toledo Blue Stockings as a catcher, which joined the American Association the following year under the name of the "Toledos". The city of Toledo, Ohio fielded an American Association team into the '40's under several names, the most famous of which was the Toledo Mud Hens. With the demise of the American Association, they joined the International League with which they are still affiliated. By 1889, blacks were uniformly barred from the high minor leagues and major leagues until 1947, when Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. During his career, Mr. Walker also played for Oberlin College and the University of Michigan.
