Stefano was born in Philadelphia. He became a scriptwriter for 20th Century-Fox in 1960 and later settled in Hollywood. His other screenplays include "The Naked Edge", "Eye of the Cat", and "Futz!". In the 1970s and 1980s he wrote television movies, including "Home for the Holidays" and "Snowbeast".
