Of Venice, FL, died Saturday, August 12, 2006. She was born June 12, 1910, in Meade County, South Dakota, to Lawrence and Gertrude Holmes. Marguerite graduated from Rapid City High School and attended Dakota Wesleyan University. She graduated from Chicago Teachers College with honors in 1958 and taught in the Blue Island (Illinois) Public Schools until her retirement in 1973. She was active in the PTA and Girl Scouts, did extensive volunteer work and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Blue Island. In 1980, Marguerite and her husband moved from Blue Island to Venice, where they were members of Bird Bay Golf Club. Her husband of 59 years, Ellis H. Ferguson, died in 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Healy of Las Vegas, NV; four sons: Donald E. of Raleigh, N.C., Thomas L. of Waynesburg, KY, Thad W. of Palm Desert, CA, and Arthur H. of Oak Forest, IL; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
