Darrell Cornelison, age 87, of Minburn, died on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry.

Darrell Roger Cornelison was born on November 3, 1920 at Woonsocket, SD to William Riley Cornelison and Aletta M. (Warble) Cornelison. He served in the United States Army during WW II and received the sharp shooters medal and the Purple Heart for injuries he received. He met Shirley Ann Barr and they were married on July 28, 1945 at Winterset, IA. For 33 years he worked as a manager at the Minburn Telephone Company. While working at Minburn Telephone Company he set up the direct dial phone and all private lines in the system. These were the first in the state of Iowa.

Darrell was a member of the Perry Bible Church and the Minburn American Legion Post #99. He was an accomplished woodcarver, made oil paintings, and loved antique motorcycles, restoring 2 Indian Motorcycles. He loved his dogs, feeding birds and enjoyed all wild life.

He was preceded in death by parents, William and Aletta Cornelison, a brother, Irvin Cornelison, 3 sisters, Alice Toye, Leona Magers, Ada Pommer.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Cornelison, Minburn, IA, 1 son, Larry Cornelison and his wife Denise, Minburn, IA, 3 grandchildren, Ray Cornelison and friend Breta of Adel, IA, Alicia Kennedy and husband Michael of Waukee, IA, and Leah Larson and husband Aaron of West Des Moines, IA, 4 great grandchildren, Macy and Mya Kennedy, and Emma and Eva Larson, and several neices and nephews.
