United States Army Officer. A veteran of World War One, Birks was assigned as commanding officer of the 120th Infantry of the 30th Infantry Division in 1942. In late 1944, Colonel Birks was reassigned to Assistant Division Commander of the 9th Infantry Division under command of Major General Louis Craig. In January of 1945, Birks received a promotion to Brigadier General, but remained as the Assistant Commander of the 9th until war's end. Brig General Birks remained in the army for one year after the war before retiring in 1946.
