I'm sorry you left us so tragically, Denys George and I hope you now know that it was wrong to lead those deadly safaris. Rest in Peace. See you in Heaven.

Watched "Out of Africa" A friend suggested watching the movie. Amoungst all the silly stuff out this is a timeless gem. Stunning visually, story compelling. Denys G Finch Hatton what a life! Inspirational, uplifting, and even though your life was cut short, each day you lived was a lifetime. What is eternal is the compassion, love and admiration you found with Karen Blixen. We all seek this, if only for a breif moment in time, that love is what embodies are hearts and minds.

Weeds grow in your ashes--Their roots remember the fire--Their strength found in the minerals left--By you who came before--When rains fall trees emerge--Their leaves twist in the African wind--Until they too see fire--But the lonely place never dies--Even if lions don't return--. May we all find peace

"The time you won your town the race, We chaired you through the market place; * Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder-high... * Smart lad, to slip betimes away, From fields where glory does not stay* And early though the laurel grows, It withers quicker than the rose... *Now you will not swell the rout Of lads that wore their honors out, *Runners whom renown out-ran, And the name died before the man... *And round that early-laurelled head, Will flock to gaze the strength-less dead,*And find unwithered on its curls, The garland briefer than a girl's." *To An Athlete Dying Youngby A. E. Housman (1859-1936***I have no idea if the relationship between you and Karen that was portrayed in the movie, Out of Africa, was indeed based on fact... it if was and she loved you as shown in the movie... I don't know who I feel more sorrow for, you or her. To love someone the way she is shown to have loved you is a painful thing, maybe even for you... I know... I love someone that way... and like you, the more love I show him, the more fierce is his fight to be free. I hope both of you have found peace and rest...
