Major League Baseball Player. A two time batting champion (1960,.320 and 1962,.326) he played in fourteen seasons with the Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros. He was named to the American League All Star Squad three times 1959, 1960 and 1962. He had 1854 career hits with a .291 lifetime batting average. After he retired as a player he managed the Red Sox for part of the 1966 season.
