LOWELL "GENE" CRAIG, 79, of Raleigh, NC, died May 4th, 2006 of complications related to heart disease.
He was born in Michigan City, Indiana on August 20, 1926.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Avery Craig of Quaker Hill, CT; and his parents, Lowell and Nancy Craig of LaPorte, IN; and his sister, Norma Glanz.
Gene is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Craig of Boston, MA, and Randall Craig of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, David and Steven Craig of Raleigh.
Gene served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, assigned to defend aircraft as an airplane tail gunner. He then went to Indiana University, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1952. He began his sales career with Carnation Milk in Cincinnati, Ohio, and rose through the ranks with increasing responsibility as a Sales Manager. He then accepted a Sales Manager position with Kaiser Aluminum in Chicago, Illinois, and helped promote the new "Roll-a-Pak" aluminum foil dispensers for the consumer market. He was offered a sales manager position with Potlatch Forest in Pittsburgh, PA, and he supervised brokerage firms throughout the Northeast, marketing paper products to the large supermarket chains. He concluded his sales career with Reliance Trading Corporation in the NY/NJ metropolitan area, before retiring to Raleigh, NC in 1999.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 9 at the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. The burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Gene was a personable, generous family man who loved his wife and two sons and motivated them to achieve their best and to be successful in their careers. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
