Bettie Lou was born Aug. 27, 1906, in Throckmorton, Texas, to John Clayton and Namantha Kennedy Ward. Bettie traveled to New Mexico by covered wagon from Texas. She spent her school days in White Oaks.
Her parents preceded her in death as well as one grandson, Kenneth Whitworth in 2000, and a great-granddaughter, Bettie Lou Whitworth, who died in 1989.
She married William Phelps Walker on Dec. 25, 1922, in Carrizozo. They moved to Roswell in 1925. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Velma Ricciardi and her husband William of Dexter; three grandchildren, Wesley Whitworth and his wife Modesta of Mich.; Barbara Cullins and her husband Jerry of Roswell; and Angline Carroll and her husband Roy of Georgia; 10 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Walker was a homemaker, and was of the Presbyterian faith. She had worked at Roswell Rehab for several years. She was a member of the Ladies Extension Club at East Grand Plains. She was a lifetime member of Woodmen of the World.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Cullins, Wesley Whitworth, Jacob Cullins, Jimmy Cullins, Joe Luiz, and Mike Gallagher. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Ricciardi, Pat Patterson, Clarence Leslie, Curtis Payne and Don Tyler.
