Services will be Friday for Jerry Marc Deets, who died last Thursday at his Live Oak home. He was 54. Mr. Deets was born in Denver. He was a world-class wheelchair athlete and advocate for the rights of the disabled. He was inducted into the Wheelchair Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. He graduated from Broomfield High School in Colorado and the University of Southern California. He managed the Ultramar gas station on Frederick Street and Soquel Avenue. He was a member of the Wheelchair Sports USA and Far West Regionals boards of directors and Santa Cruz Bible Church. He is survived by wife Lori Wunder-Deets of Live Oak; daughters Tiffany, Tami and Cassie Deets of Live Oak; brother John Deets of Atlanta; sisters Pat Thompson of Mesa, Colo, and Desa Webb; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Santa Cruz Bible Church, 440 Frederick St, Santa Cruz. Normans Family Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. A fund has been established to offset funeral and medical expenses. Contributions may be made to account No. 394-430-539-6, at Washington Mutual Bank, 730 Ocean St, Santa Cruz. March 21, 2002
