VIET NAM VETERAN, TEXAS PEACE OFFICER, NATIVE TEXAN, AUSTIN COLONY DESCENDANT

Pat's roots run deep in Texas, 6th generation native Texan.

3rd great grandson of the prominent Caleb Wallace and Elizabeth Wingfield; Texas "Old 300" property owners. Caleb and his wife owned properties in both Stephen F. Austin's San Felipe colony, Austin county and Wallace Prairie, Grimes county, Texas.

Pat's descendancy is proved through his father, Ernest Beck; his paternal grandmother, Mary Ella "Mollie" Woodard Beck; his gr grandfather, John Woodard; his gr gr grandmother Mary Elizabeth Wallace Woodard; and finally his gr gr gr grandfather Caleb Wallace. (Beck Bible Records)

Preferred to be called "Pat".

Youngest son of Ernest Roneal Beck & Emily Nancy Richardson both of Texas.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Pat was a baseball player. At the age of 13, he pitched a "No Hitter" for the Casa View Christian Church.

Attended Bryan Adams H.S. Dallas, Texas, class of 1962.

Viet Nam Veteran, U.S. Air Force. Pat was an aircraft mechanic, he worked on F104's and F105's (Thuds). He served on the maintenance crew for Col. Robinson B. Risner. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 1968, Pat began his career with Dallas County Sheriff's Dept. He started as a Jailer and retired as a Captain. While at the DSO, Pat held every civil service rank. As a Sergeant, he helped establish the DSO Bomb Squad. He was Lieutenant over the Patrol Division and Internal Affairs. After earning the rank of Captain, he served as Jail Commander. His last assignment was "Night Chief". (Badge #45)

Pat honorably retired from DSO in 1994, after 26 years of service. Commissioner's Court passed a resolution on June 29, 1994 recognizing Pat's dedication, loyalty and service to the Sheriff's department and for the citizens of Dallas County.

His advice to all new officers: "Integrity and Honor are all an officer has, if you lose either one, it's time to look for another career." And, "Never", "Ever", ask me a question, unless you are prepared for my answer".

Pat was the best man, I have ever known. He was a great father and wonderful influence for my son. Both Ross and I will always love him. He was a fearless man. However, one person could bring him to his knees , our granddaughter Rebecca. This little bright faced, happy, 3 year old had him wrapped around her little finger. She was the only baby he ever held and it was love at first sight. When PaPa Pat was in the room, Rebecca could do anything. If she was scolded by anyone, she would run to him. Climb into his lap and bury her face in his shoulder. He would gently pat her on her back and say "don't worry darlin, as long as PaPa is here, no one will mess with you." (The scolding was over.)

His strong sense of ethics, his steadfast values, and his ability to laugh are representative of a true Texan; Caleb would be proud.

It's not where you start, baby. It's how you Finish!
