Mr. Paul Clinard 'Tom' Andrews, age 88, of Lenoir, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Lenoir Health Care center.

Born April 28, 1923 in Caldwell County, Tom was a son of the late, Thomas N. and Mary Katherine Summerow Andrews. Tom was a World War II veteran serving as a Combat Medic with the 737 Tank Battalion in the European Theatre under Patton's 3rd Army. He received the bronze star in the Battle of the Bulge.Tom has been a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church for many years.He also retired from Lowe's Foods after many years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry 'Bud' Andrews and Howard Andrews; and four sisters, Laura Davis, Mary Andrews, Ruth Andrews and Margaret Grant.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Melba Bates Andrews of the home; two daughters and sons in law, Pam Andrews Scott and her husband, Mac, of Asheboro, and Deenie Andrews Griffin and her husband, Larry, of Granite Falls; two grandchildren, Zach Griffin and Abbey Griffin; Tom is also survived by numerous other relatives.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Chuck Brawley officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir with Military Honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Smith, Larry Jump, Steve Setzer, Eddie Pippin, Monty Henderson, and Matt Keller. Honorary pallbearers will be John Corpening, Jonathan White and Tim Barlow.
