Born in Utica on February 8, 1932, Fred was the son of the late Fred J., Sr. and Angeline (Pugliese) Grimaldi. He was raised and educated locally, attending Proctor High School. On August 23, 1952 he married the former Marie Ferrese, and they were proud to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this August. Fred and Marie centered their love upon one another and their family, and Fred's whole life was dedicated to their happiness and comfort.
Fred was employed by the Utica City School District for over 20 years. He retired from his position as an Athletic Grounds Caretaker in 1993. Fred was blessed with a natural athletic ability which allowed him to excel at various sports. From 1952 he played fastpitch softball for several local teams, all while engraining in his sons an appreciation for sports. Fred took a special interest in coaching his sons and grandchildren in their baseball endeavors, along with many local youth that he inspired. In his earlier years, he enjoyed woodworking, handcrafting many memorable pieces for his grandchildren. Fred will be remembered as an all-around family man who appreciated friendships and loved people.
